Quantum XChange®, a leader in quantum-safe network security, is warning that organizations investing heavily in artificial intelligence may be overlooking a critical security vulnerability: the encryption protecting the sensitive data their AI systems depend on. Speaking at the ONUG AI Networking Summit in New York today, Antonio Sanchez, Chief Strategy Officer at Quantum XChange, will highlight the growing threat posed by advances in quantum computing and the urgent need to strengthen cryptographic protections before today’s encrypted information becomes vulnerable to future decryption.

Sanchez will deliver a presentation titled “Protecting Your AI Systems from the Quantum Threat” at 1:30 p.m. ET, examining how the rapid adoption of AI is increasing the volume and value of sensitive data moving across enterprise networks. While organizations are investing heavily in securing AI models, applications and infrastructure, the cryptographic systems protecting data in transit remain vulnerable to the future capabilities of quantum computers.

Nation-state adversaries are already pursuing “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” attacks, collecting encrypted data today with the intention of decrypting it once cryptographically relevant quantum computers become available. With industry forecasts anticipating this capability as early as 2029, sensitive information collected today could be exposed in the years ahead.

“Organizations are investing billions in AI, but many are overlooking the encryption protecting the data that makes those systems valuable,” said Sanchez. “The quantum threat isn’t just about what happens when powerful quantum computers arrive. Adversaries can collect encrypted data today and hold onto it until they have the ability to decrypt it. That means the decisions organizations make about protecting their AI infrastructure right now will determine how secure their information remains in the future.”

The rapid expansion of AI across enterprise operations, financial services, critical infrastructure and government is increasing the importance of securing sensitive data as it moves between applications, cloud environments, data centers and external systems. AI workloads often depend on continuous exchanges of proprietary information, customer records and other sensitive data, making the security of those network connections an essential component of long-term AI resilience. Organizations that strengthen these protections now will be better positioned to protect their AI investments and maintain a competitive advantage as quantum computing advances.

Quantum XChange advocates a practical, phased approach to post-quantum security that allows organizations to begin protecting sensitive data without waiting for quantum computers capable of breaking today’s encryption or completing a comprehensive overhaul of their existing infrastructure. By securing the network connections over which sensitive data travels, organizations can significantly reduce their exposure to future quantum threats while maintaining existing systems and minimizing operational disruption.

Central to this approach is crypto-agility, the ability to update, replace and manage cryptographic protections as threats, algorithms and security standards evolve. Sanchez will also address the risks posed by static private keys, which can create long-term vulnerabilities when compromised, and the importance of modernizing how cryptographic keys are managed and protected.

Quantum XChange helps organizations prepare for this transition through its FIPS-validated Phio TX® platform, which enables quantum-safe protection across existing network infrastructure. Its approach allows enterprises and government agencies to strengthen cryptographic security and adopt new protections without costly network replacements.

“Protecting AI systems against quantum threats doesn’t require organizations to replace their existing infrastructure or wait until every cryptographic vulnerability has been identified,” Sanchez added. “They can begin securing their most sensitive data in motion today and build the flexibility to adopt stronger protections as the threat evolves. The important thing is to start now.”
